So you want to build your own shed? You are most likely doing this for a couple of reasons, you want the challenge and enjoy working with your hands, and you want to save money as opposed to hiring a builder and paying thousands of dollars for them to do the same work you could do one your own.
Tools, now is the time to clean and disinfect all your brushes, towels, picks, and combs with warm soapy water. Besides being healthy for your horse you don't want to put dirty equipment back in to your nice clean tack room. Now is also the time to go through your tack. Clean saddles with saddle soap, water and a sponge. Do not use excessive amounts of water and once dry follow cleaning with a good oiling. Don't forget your saddle blankets or pads. Hang them over a fence rail or something similar and rinse with a hose and clean water. Finally, go through your bridles, leads and ropes then clean, replace and repair as necessary.
Not far from where I live there is the Elche childrens shelter. Home to children of 6 to 18 years, this shelter has always been funded by grants from the Valencian Regional Government (Generalitat Valencia) and voluntary contributions from the public, local businesses and charities. Thanks to austerity, recession and resulting cut backs, the grants have stopped and children in the most need have been set adrift by the state. As we approach Christmas, fund raising is taking place to ensure that utility bills are paid and that the children have the basics that they need. Locals are working together to collect presents for the children so that they share a little joy like all children should at this time of year. Money has been raised so that all will have plenty to eat over the festive season.
